- Do you come and pickup cats and transport for surgery? NO, we do not have a shelter nor do we have a vehicle for transport. Contrary to what OTHERS MAY TELL YOU. The local animal shelter is county funded by your tax dollars, they have vehicles, we are a not for profit and not funded by any local or government agency.
- Does my cat's ear have to be tipped? YES, if you do not want your cat'sear tipped you can take your cat(s) to your veterinarian or call the Shely Co. Humane Society at 502-633-4033, ear tipping and traps are not required.
- Does(o) my cat(s) have to come in a trap that you loan or can I bring in my own trap or cage or carrier? YES they must come in OUR TRAPS ONLY, NO EXCEPTIONS. YES, if you do not want your cat's ear tipped you can take your cat(s) to your veterinarian or call the Shely Co. Humane Society at 502-633-4033, ear tipping and traps are not required.
- Do you assist other counties? NO, we only assist SHELBY CO, KY now.
- Do you relocate and or remove cats? NO, "Relocation" is not a good option for cats unless they are in an unsafe environment, such as a busy traffic area.
- Can you take our cats, because we are "moving, allergic,....."? NO, again we do not have a shelter, we are a Trap, Neuter, Return, Manage organization.
- Can you come trap for us? NO, we do not have a vehicle or enough volunteers to do this, we gladly train you on trapping, UNLESS YOU ARE ELDERLY OR HANDICAPPED WE CAN SEND A TRAPPER OUT.
- What is your fee? Our services are NOT FREE. A typical spay with vaccines, flea treatment and pain medication costs us $35. We appreciate non financial donations but we pay our veterinarians with money not supplies. Also, we have to purchase all of the vaccines, syringes, needles, gauze, autoclave equipment and supplies, ear cleaner, mite killer, flea treatment, surgical site sterilizer, antibiotics, pain meds, medical supplies our vet's use. We spend over $2,000 per month on medical supplies to give your cat the best treatment while we have them.
- What age does my cat need to be to be altered? It depends on weight, KITTENS must be 2lbs.
- What age can my cat get pregnant? At 4 months of age.
- Do you loan traps out for other animals? NO, only cats.
- Can I release my cat the same day of surgery? NO, NO, NO! This is Animal Abuse and Neglect. The cat is still under the effects of anesthesia and could possibly get hit by a car or become seriously injured and die. Leave the kitty in the trap after surgery until Monday with food and water for the safety of the cat. The cat must remain in a safe temperature controlled environment.
- Can I feed my cat, cow's milk? NO, just because your child may like to play in the street, it does not mean it is the right thing to do, duh!! Cat's are lactose intolerant and it will cause diarrhea and inflammation to the bowel, LEADING TO LONG TERM COMPLICATIONS.
- Can my cat survive on milk and mice? NO, they need energy to hunt and a cat would have to eat several mice a day to sustain.
- When I bring my cat for surgery, what does the cat receive? Your cat will be spayed or neutered, depending on the sex of the cat, receive flea treatment, age appropriate vaccines, tattoo at surgical site, ear tip, receive 3 pain medications and an antibiotic shot.
- You call and tell us you trapped a cat and we only have clinic one day a month? You are responsible for making an appointment with a private vet to alter before releasing. It is illegal to take the cat and dump elsewhere.
- Are you part of the Shelby County Humane Society? NO we are a separate entity, we are blessed to be able to use their medial clinic one weekend a month.
- Aren't the Shelby County and Shelby Co Animal Shelter the same? NO, the Shelby County Humane Society is a non profit like ourselves that has a Spay/Neuter Clinic at 400 Hudson Blvd and a Cat Sanctuary on 40 North 7th Street. They depend on fundraising and donations to survive like ourselves. They offer WEEKLY SPAY/NEUTER at their clinic for DOGS, CATS, and Rabbits! Call 502-633-4033.
